SkyRun Vacation Story from
The Shepherd Sisters

Texas Hill Country
May 2014
Star House

There are 5 Shepherd sisters, spanning between the ages of 30 and 40 years old. We grew up primarily in San Antonio, Texas, but spent summers in Scotland where our grandparents lived. As we grew up we remained close, and, despite now living on two continents, we try to get together once a year for a reunion we call SisterTrip. We met in England for a week this last trip and had a great time.

This past year, however, the sisters who live in the USA decided it was high time that we added a second visit to our repertoire. Always looking for an excuse to go back to Texas from where I now live in Pennsylvania, I suggested that we meet in the Hill Country of Texas.

This past May, I flew into San Antonio and drove the 90 minutes to the Star House in Wimberley, Texas. As I drove up and over the rolling hills and smelled the sweet scent of mesquite trees at dusk, I couldn't wait to see my sisters and our new abode for the weekend.

As I passed through the lovely little town of Wimberley, I noted the coffee shops and the restaurants and the beautiful Cypress Creek with its walking path. I drove up to the Star House and decided immediately that it was a wonderful find! It sits on a bluff overlooking a wide limestone creek and has a great view of the valley below. My sisters drew up soon thereafter and could not have been more excited! Our visit to the Star House was just as fabulous as we had anticipated. We drank coffee in the mornings and wine in the evenings while catching up. We enjoyed the Blue Hole natural swimming area and sampled the local wines. The restaurants in and around Wimberley were very good and we had both Italian and Mexican food, as well as a good hamburger. We slept well and saw wildlife such as coyotes and deer. We enjoyed wading in the creek and seeing minnows and frogs.

I was sad to leave after three days, but we have every intention of making our mini-SisterTrip at the Star House an annual event. I miss Texas (and my sisters), but I feel cheered up by the thought of creating new memories in Wimberely Texas for years to come.
