Beaver Creek
March 2013
Condo in the Charter
This past March, our family of 5 headed out from Flower Mound, Texas to Beaver Creek for a week of snowboarding. Our kids – Riley, 12yo, Sidney 9yo & Karic 7yo (ages last March) – would be snowboarding for the very first time. Papa (Bob) Grennan flew in to meet us from California to enjoy the snow vacation with us.
We pulled into Beaver Creek before noon & couldn’t contain our excitement. Driving up the hill to the resort we were so excited at how beautiful everything was & what was to come. Our condo at the Charter was perfect. Skyrun definitely found us the perfect place to enjoy our week. We could even walk to the slopes from our condo. We got the kids all settled into their gear & into a lesson the first morning. Shawn & I spent the day by ourselves on the mountain & realized that snowboarding is like riding a bike, you never forget your skills. We had an amazing day, the weather was perfect. Papa hung with the kids up at the lesson lodge. We checked on the kids a bunch & they were so well taken care of & were each snowboarding on their first day ever. After a fantastic first day, we knew the week was going to be incredible. The second day we took the kids on the slopes with us & it was SO awesome to snowboard down the beautiful, snowy mountains together. The view was incredible from the top. Mom was trying to watch the kids, take photos & video on her iPhone & keep herself from crashing. Shawn or I would go down first in front of the kids & the other one of us would bring up the rear. The kids not only kept up - They. Loved. It. We 5 snowboarded 5 full days. Two of the days the temps were below 0 degrees at the top & pretty windy. We sent Shawn to buy gators to hopefully keep the kids enjoying every second. We put those on, warmed up at the lodge with hot chocolate & were back on the slopes without one complaint. Throughout the week, we loved every single thing about Beaver Creek & our stay at the Charter through Skyrun. We enjoyed the restaurants, shopping, ice skating, firepits around the resort, all the amenities at the resort & on the mountains. The people were so nice & friendly. We even enjoyed the most incredible dinner ever at Beano’s Cabin. There was not one thing we did not absolutely LOVE about Beaver Creek. Coincidentally, my 40th birthday landed right at the end of our snowboard week. Just being together that week, giving the kids the opportunity to try something new & fall in love with it & the 6 of us creating the best memories made for the best birthday ever. The kids are chomping at the bit to go back again this year for another Spring Break & so is Papa. We have done many wonderful family vacations all over the country through the years, but our Beaver Creek trip is the very top of the list. After last year’s Beaver Creek experience, the entire family wants to go back, though I’m not sure we can top 2013. This year it is Shawn’s 40th birthday, so I think we need to celebrate Beaver Creek style again. |
